Volunteer with us

There’s always more we can do as a Charity to help improve the lives of our patients at RWT – and that’s where you come in.

Volunteers are important to RWT, and we expect our volunteers to adopt our Trust vision and values so that they can truly be a representative of RWT and feel confident doing so. Volunteers are a part of our Trust’s workforce, and therefore, we have expectations of them that will show their professionalism around the workplace and community and their commitment to their role.

Our wonderful volunteers enable us to enhance the experience of staff, patients their families whilst using services at the Trust.

Volunteering for us is a great way to use your skills, time, and enthusiasm to support the local community through the work of the hospital. Whether its fundraising administration or supporting one of our many exciting events to running art therapy sessions with our patients there’s something for everyone.

Whatever your availability and however you choose to help, you’ll meet lots of new people, amazing staff, rewarding experience as part of our community of volunteers. And it’s all to support those using services at our hospital.

Events Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to help out at our events. This could include supporting the team with developing events, welcoming participants, or cheering our runners and cyclists on. Whatever your role on the day, we guarantee you’ll have an amazing time!

Promoter

Do you like meeting people and enjoy striking up conversations with people of all ages across our communities? If so, our Promoter role could be the one for you! This would require you to have pop up stands within the hospital and local community, visit local shops and businesses and promote the work of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity and ask them if they would like a Charity collection tin. Every few months you would be responsible for swapping the tins for an empty one and returning the full ones to us.

Arts and Heritage

This role is to support our exciting Arts and Heritage programme and our community project ‘Care, Create, Conserve’, which is based in a new Healthcare Heritage Hub. This role will support the successful delivery of the project with volunteers acting as ambassadors, engaging the public with the heritage on display in the Hub, and assisting with the events and workshops which take place in the space. You will be a friendly face to invite the public to explore the exhibition and will facilitate conversations around Wolverhampton’s healthcare heritage and the experience of healthcare today. As a part of this role, you will also have the opportunity to attend specialised training, learning new skills and gaining experience in areas including collections management, conservation, and curation.

"I am so grateful. When I was in Thailand I was given two hours to live – I thought I had indigestion and I had to come off the golf course! But Mr Petkar put the defibrillator in and I haven’t had any problems since. This treatment has given me a new lease of life. This is an annual fundraiser and this time I was only too happy to donate it to the people who saved my life."

Graham Ellis

"The sensory room is such a lovely bright, colourful and safe space for the patients. We feel very lucky to have this on our ward at Wolverhampton as not every Children’s Ward has one, so we’re very grateful to the scheme for funding it. Some of our children with complex health needs have been here for a long time and it’s really hard on the child and the families."

Kirsty Lewis, Matron

"To give back to the community is fantastic and a lot of fundraising has taken place to be able to make this donation. To bring a bit of fun into what can be a traumatic experience is what we aim to do with these cars."

Anthony-Hugh Selormey

"I see the ICCU Nurses as the elite of the elite – they have so much compassion for the job. They are in a different league, they are just so fantastic! We’re grateful to them and lucky to have them and we would be more than happy for the money raised to go to the staff or the patients. I only thought we’d raise £100 but we received £1,120 on the day and it’s grown and grown since."

Lauren Cole

"I owe my life to the staff at New Cross Hospital and I want to help people who have what I had. What impressed me at the prostate cancer evening was that we had men in their 20s and 30s, not just older ages, so people are starting to realise that this is something that can affect anyone at any time."
